Animal Friends: I Have a...

I can name six animals and say 'I have a...' about them.

I have a [noun].

This teaches possession with 'have' for young beginners. Use it with animal names so children practice a full short sentence about pets or animals they like.

1. 5′Warm-up — Teacher plays animal sounds (moo, woof, meow) and children guess and make the sound back. Teacher greets class and asks 'How are you today?' to settle everyone.
2. 10′Presentation — Teacher shows flashcards one by one for dog, cat, fish, bird, cow, and elephant, saying 'This is a dog' etc. Teacher then holds up a card and says 'I have a dog', doing a hugging mime, so children see the target structure modeled with each animal.

  Give children a picture sheet with six animals: dog, cat, fish, bird, cow, elephant. Read the script aloud slowly, twice. Children point to the correct animal each time they hear it.
